Although construction of Kabeli B1 hydropower project is on its last leg, power generated by the project is likely to be connected to the national grid due delay in laying of the transmission line.

Earlier, the project had stated that it would start generating power by mid-May. The 25MW capacity power project is based on the Kabeli Khola river flowing between Taplejung and Panchthar districts. As per sources, the delay in the completion of the project has to do with the tardy construction of the Kabeli corridor that is being carried out by Nepal Electricity Authority.

Chief technician Hastaman Rai at Arun Kabeli Power Limited, the developer of the project, said construction of the project was likely to take some more time. “We’ve completed work related to surge tank, powerhouse and the likes and even the installation of penstock pipe is on the last leg. But as the transmission line is not ready, the power generated by the project is likely go to waste causing loss.” Earlier, NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising had monitored the progress on the transmission line project.
