The Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project is starting commercial generation of electricity from Monday. The project is starting commercial generation after eight and a half years of initiation of the project.

The 60 MW project had started generating electricity five months ago. But there were some works left to be completed because of which the project was yet to generate electricity commercially.

Project Chief Phadindra Raj Joshi said that the Taking-Over Certificate will be handed over to the project and the commercial generation of electricity will also start from the same day.

The certificate is being provided after the report of performance test was jointly inspected by the project, contractor, and consultant.

The testing and monitoring work of the project has been completed. The project that has dam in Rasuwa and powerhouse in Nuwakot has been constructed by Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

The 60 MW capacity project's 30 MW electricity from the first unit was linked to the national transmission grid on May 17, and the other 30 MW electricity produced from the second unit was linked to the grid on August 2. After the commercial production starts, one year will be a period to correct the defects, if there are any.

The project has 8% contribution to the power consumed in the country. Thirty megawatt electricity will be generated from each of the two units. The breakthrough of the project's tunnel was done in August 2017. The project was constructed by the Chinese contractor company China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC).

The agreement with the CHHC to work for the civil powerhouse, dam, tunnel and structure, electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical works in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) model was signed on July 30, 2010.

The construction of the project started from April, 2011. The construction of the project was affected for 22 months because of 2015 earthquake followed by the blockade imposed by India. The earthquake had impacted the structure of the project. The project will be completed with an investment of Rs 13.99 billion.

The electricity generated from the Electricity 3B hub is being transferred through 45 kilometers long transmission line to the substation located at Matatirtha. Of which, 132 KV from powerhouse located at Simle to 3B hub, 220 KV double circuit from 3B hub to Badbhanjyang and 220 KV 4 circuit transmission line from Badbhanjyang to Matatirtha have been constructed.
