The Nepal Electricity Authority says it is constructing 50 charging stations for electric vehicles across the country within one year.

The government-run energy distribution monopoly recently signed an agreement with a Chinese company for the supply, installation, test, operation and maintenance of the charging station equipment. The contract is worth Rs 377.95 million, exclusive of taxes.

The government will be building the stations with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank, and the Chinese company has been made responsible for all the maintenance and recovery for the next five years, informs the authority’s spokesperson Madan Timsina.

All the stations will be controlled from Kathmandu.
