SP Group is to deploy Opus One Solutions’ GridOS platform for distributed energy resource integration and optimisation in the island state.

Singapore has the ambition to deploy at least 2GW of solar energy by 2030 and 200MW of energy storage beyond 2025.

SP Group, building on its existing smart grid initiative, is laying the foundation for integrating these resources with the Canada solution provider Opus One’s real time distributed energy resource management platform.

The initiative will launch with a proof-of-concept exercise in the which the GridOS platform will be deployed to enhance distributed resource capabilities for a selected circuit.

“By combining the planning and real time operational capabilities of our GridOS software, we believe SP will be able to optimise its current distributed energy assets while laying out a plan of action for even more distributed energy in its grid for the future,” promises Hari Suthan, Chief of Strategic Growth with Opus One Solutions.

Opus One intends to leverage the GridOS software to simulate future scenarios in order to understand the effects of more distributed energy resources on the distribution system and how to enhance grid reliability in these scenarios.

Specific applications that will be tested include analysing network constraints, calculating hosting capacity for distributed resource connections and managing resource dispatch with grid constraints.

Opus One anticipates that the proof-of-concept exercise will support SP in preparing Singapore for a low carbon energy future.

As a small, low lying city state, Singapore is particularly vulnerable to the impact of climate change and is working on a $72 billion plan to safeguard against extreme temperatures and flooding.

Singapore’s Climate Action Plan launched in 2016 targets a 36% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 2005 primarily through improved energy efficiency, reduced carbon emissions from power stations and the development of low carbon technologies.
