Kathmandu: The construction of 220/132/33 kV Inaruwa Substation based on 400 kV Gas Insulated System (GIS) is taking place in full swing. The substation is being constructed to strengthen the power transmission and distribution system in the country.

The substation is being constructed with the aim of completing and operating (charging) within December 2021. Once completed, the Inaruwa substation will be another major hub for the transmission system that supplies east-west electricity. In addition to electricity supply to the national transmission system through substations, local supply will also take place. This will make the power supply of the region reliable and qualitative.

Most of the civil structures of 400 kV GIS and 220/132/33 kV substations have been completed. Also, main equipment like transformers, reactor circuit breakers have been brought to the construction site. Equipment of the 220/132/33 kV substation has been installed. The overall construction progress of the 400 kV system and 220/132/33 kV substation is 65 and 85 percent, respectively.

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising has requested those concerned to complete the work on time after inspecting the construction site and discussing with the project management, Contractor Company and consultant involved in the construction.

"The construction of the Inaruwa Substation has to be completed immediately to provide more power to the industries in the Morang-Sunsari Industrial Corridor and to make the supply reliable and qualitative. We are ready to solve the problems in construction of the substation immediately," he said. “The 220 kV transmission line can be charged to 220 kV, then resources will be available for power supply in the area, which will make the system reliable.”

The electricity generated from the hydropower projects constructed on the Arun and Tamor rivers and their tributaries will be connected to the Inaruwa substation through the Koshi Corridor 220 kV transmission line.

The construction of the Inaruwa-Basantapur-Tumlingtar section of Koshi Corridor has been completed while the Basantapur-Dhungesanghu section is under construction.
