Kathmandu: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Pampha Bhusal said that the share of electric energy in the energy consumed in the country will be increased.

Speaking at the 6th National General Convention of the National Association of Community Electricity Users-Nepal today, she urged the people to help in the campaign to bring electricity to all sectors by increasing people’s access to electricity.

Minister Bhusal said, "We are in a campaign to consume electricity in all sectors including industry, agriculture, irrigation and household purposes. For that, all sectors should cooperate. The government, the ministry and the Nepal Electricity Authority are ready for facilitation." She also thanked the association for starting the campaign of providing electricity to more than 550,000 households in 55 districts across the country.

Stating that the government has increased its assistance to 90 percent in the electrification and system improvement works which formerly was 80 percent participation of the government and 20 percent participation of the community, Minister Bhusal said that the goal is to provide electricity to all the people of the country within the next two years. She reminded that the government has given some concessions in electricity tariff to the general consumers for the benefit of the community organizations and stressed the need for providing quality service.

"Despite good works being done in rural electrification, job creation, women empowerment, promotion of electric stoves, access to electricity and other good services, there is no quality in service delivery to various community organizations,” Minister Bhusal said, adding, “Please solve such problems in rural areas such as not being able to provide quality service, not paying enough attention to electrical safety, some community organizations not paying electricity tariff on time, accepting loads of more capacity than stipulated by regulations, not solving customer problems in time.”

Stating that a decision was taken to waive the electricity tariff of the consumers consuming up to 20 units after she assumed the responsibility of the ministry, she stressed the need for paying special attention to the electrical safety of all consumers.
