Kathmandu: Sajha Yatayat has brought three electric buses into operation in Kathmandu from today. Three buses from the Pulchowk-based office of Sajha Yatayat formally launched the service this morning.

Bishwabandhu Thapa, founder chairman of Sajha Yatayat, formally inaugurated the bus service. Three electric buses brought in by Sajha in the first phase have started regular service on the existing routes. These buses have female drivers and conductors.

These buses are manufactured in the electric bus factory of CHTCHO Company in Nanjing, China. According to Kanak Mani Dixit, chairperson of Sajha Yatayat, the remaining 37 buses will also arrive in Nepal. He expressed confidence that these buses would provide reliable service in Kathmandu.

At present, electric buses with a capacity of 25 seats and above have started service. These buses also have features like WiFi, TV display, CCTV etc. There is also a facility with a ramp for differently-abled people to get on the bus. The government had decided to buy 300 electric buses with government investment on December 24, 2018.
