The plan to build a dam on the Arjun River in Dang and develop it into a lake has been discussed for many years, but the work has not yet started.

At the initiative of Lamahi Municipality and the civic leaders of this area, an initial on-site study had also been conducted to develop the area as Arjun area. In addition to this, although there is an on-site study from the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Alternative Energy Promotion Centre, the construction of the project has not been started yet.

It is expected that the daily life of the people of this region will change after the success of the Arjun Sarovar project, which is waiting for an investor.

Social leader Basanta Raj Sharma informed that the Arjun Sarovar can be developed under the multi-purpose plan, which will benefit large number people of four wards of Lamahi Municipality. At his initiative, the aim is to build a dam on the Arjun River and irrigate the Satbaria area.

A preliminary feasibility study has found that electricity of up to 1 megawatt can be generated from Arjun Sarovar.

Engineer Dilli Ram Bhatta, a member of the Board of Directors of Alternative Energy Promotion Centre, said that when the dam is constructed on the Arjun River, the water level will rise to the top, so electricity can be generated at that location.

At present, the level of water is low during the winter, but it is believed that it will increase as the water source will be protected by building a dam.

Civic leader Sharma said that there is a possibility that the area can be developed as a religious site by developing it as a reservoir and constructing a tourist centre, and temple.

He said, "Arjun Sarovar is important for the development of the economic, tourism, irrigation and religious sectors of this region, for this we work in coordination with the local, provincial and federal governments."

The local government has also shown interest in Arjun Sarovar. Lamahi Municipality has conducted a feasibility study for constructing Arjun Sarovar and has also prepared a master plan of the project.

Lamahi Municipality Engineer Saugat Oli informed that the DPR for constructing a dam has been prepared by Lamahi Municipality with the aim of irrigation in Satbaria area.

Since 26 households will be affected by the construction of the dam on Arjun Khola, it is also intended to relocate the settlement to a higher place and operate Arjun Homestay to benefit from the Arjun Sarovar.

An initiative is being taken to work by asking all three levels of the government for the necessary budget to do all this work and put it in a multi-year plan.
