Nepal's hydropower generation capacity will reach 3,000 megawatts within the current financial year, claimed Nepal Electricity Authority’s Executive Director Kulman Ghising.

Ghising made such remarks during a program organized to appreciate the best taxpayers on the occasion of the National Tax Day on Wednesday. Ghising argued that many hydropower projects are about to be completed. As a result, the production capacity of the country will increase soon, said Ghising.

He added Nepal's hydropower production capacity will reach 15,000 megawatts in the next 5 to 6 years, and estimated that the authority will pay about Rs 5 billion in revenue to the government annually after that. He informed that the authority currently pays Rs 1.70 billion to the government in revenue annually.

Ghising said that hydropower projects can contribute greatly to the revenue if they get good promotion. He informed that the NEA earned Rs 11 billion in revenue through the export of electricity in the first four months of the current fiscal year. He added that hydropower is important for the prosperity of the country.
