Construction of New Modi (Parvat)-Lekhnath (Kaski) transmission line has been completed. Under the New Modi-Lekhnath transmission line project, 43 km of 132 KV double circuit transmission line and 132 KV switching station in Modi Rural Municipality-2 Deupur, 132 KV Lahachok substation in Machhapuchchhe Rural Municipality-4 of Kaski and 132 KV line bay have been constructed in the switchyard of Lekhnath substation.

The New Modi-Lekhnath transmission line project has been constructed to improve the power supply of Parbat, Kaski and other districts and for the flow of hydropower projects to be built on the Modi, Seti, Madi and Sardi rivers in the national electricity system.

Under the project, the 132 KV transmission line from the switching station at Modi rural municipality-2 Deupur to Lahachok and the Lahachok substation were completed and put into operation in March of last year.

Nepal Electricity Authority Managing Director Kulman Ghising said that the Lahachok-Lekhnath section transmission line construction was completed and charging was completed on Tuesday.

“Due to the epidemic of Covid-19, the construction was affected when local residents of Machhapuchche Rural Municipality and Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality under the Lahachok-Lekhnath section demanded a change in the route of the transmission line. The continuous efforts of the project management, the local level, the administration, etc. The construction of the transmission line has been completed”, said Managing Director Ghising. “Infrastructure has been prepared so that around 200 megawatts of electricity produced by various hydroelectric projects under construction in that area can flow to the national grid.”

Lahachok substation has provided electricity to Machhapuchhre, Annapurna Rural Municipality and Pokhara Metropolitan City in Kaski. Due to this, the electricity supply in that area has become quality and reliable. Since the power supply line from Pokhara was long, there were problems such as tripping and low voltage. Roshan Agarwal, head of the project, said that when the supply was provided from Lahachok substation, the electricity service in that area was improved and the consumers got reliable and quality electricity and technical leakages also decreased.

140 towers have been constructed under the New Modi-Lekhnath transmission line project. There are 132-33 kV, 30 MVA and 33-11 kV, 8 MVA power transformers in Lahachok substation. One 33 kV line bay and four 11 kV feeders have been constructed in the substation for local power supply.

The total estimated cost of the project is 2 billion 24 million rupees, and there is a concessional loan from the Government of Nepal and the Electricity Authority and Import-Export (EXIM) Bank of India. For the construction of transmission line and substation, a contract was signed with Kalpatru Power Transmission Limited, India and Hitachi Energy Limited (ABB), India respectively on 7 June 2075.
