Modi Jalvidyut Company Limited has invited interested companies to apply for the contract to construct the 42 MW Upper Modi-A Hydroelectric Project.

The contract encompasses the construction of civil and hydro mechanical structures and will follow the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model. This model ensures the company’s responsibility from design and procurement to construction and operation.

The proposed project will be situated in Annapurna Rural Municipality, Kaski. The company aims to complete the evaluation of the construction companies within five months and commence construction in the sixth month. The ambitious goal is to achieve commercial production within four years from the start of construction.

The estimated cost for constructing the project is approximately 10 billion rupees, with Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Company Limited (HIDCL), under the leadership of NMB Bank, investing in the project. An agreement has already been signed between NMB Bank, HIDCL, and the company to invest in the project, with the final agreement currently being finalized. The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been completed, and the loan agreement is in its final stages of completion.

As part of the project’s progress, the company is also preparing to award the contract for the transmission line once the contract for the civil structure is awarded. The construction will involve building a 6 km tunnel with two audit tunnels, establishing a power house of superficial nature at Syauli Bazar near Ghandruk. The generated electricity will be connected to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)’s New Modi substation through an approximately 11.5 km transmission line. A grid connection agreement has already been signed for the project.

The company had previously awarded the contract for the construction of the project last year, but it was later canceled due to technical challenges. Modi Jalvidyut Company Limited is a subsidiary of NEA.
