The construction of 66 pylons of transmission line of Tanahun Hydropower Project under construction in Rishing Rural Municipality-1, Jhaputar of Tanahun has been completed.

Rajabhai Shilpakar, chief of Tanahun Hydropower Project, said that 60 pylons of transmission line under the third package of the project have been completed so far.

He informed that the foundation of remaining pylons had reached the final stage. According to the project, a total of 94 pylons will be constructed for the transmission lines.

Shilpakar said that compensation of land in Tanahun and Chitwan, where the pylon will be placed for the construction of the transmission line, has been determined and 98 per cent distribution has been completed.

According to the project, a double circuit transmission line of 220 kV will be constructed from Damauli to Bharatpur in Chitwan.

Indian company KEC has got the job of constructing the transmission line.

A total of 59 plots of 923 ropani and five annas land has been acquired for the construction of the transmission line. The land belonging to Vyas Municipality-13 and 14, Bandipur Rural Municipality-6, Anbukhaireni Rural Municipality-6, Devghat Rural Municipality-4 and 5 has been acquired towards Tanahun.

The goal of completing the construction of the transmission line by May 2022 has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the delay in receiving approval for cutting trees in the forest area from the Ministry of Forestry.

The Song Da Corporation, Vietnam Kalika Construction Pvt. Ltd. Nepal JV is constructing structures including a 140-metre-high dam under the first package of the project.

Under this, for the construction of the main dam, the necessary diversion tunnel, digging of the upper part and slope of the dam, upgrading of the access road are going on.

The construction of the tunnel, power house and other works of the project are being carried out by SinoHydro, China in the second package.

The overall construction of the project is targeted to be complete by July 2026.

The total cost of the company’s capital structure and financial management project, including transmission lines, rural electrification and interest during the construction period is USD 505 million.

The Asian Development Bank is providing USD 150 million, Japan International Cooperation Agency USD 184 million, European Investment Bank USD 85 million while the government and the Nepal Electricity Authority are injecting USD 86 million into the project.

According to the project, the annual average power generation for the first 10 years will be 587 million units yearly, then 489 million units.
