In the Parsa district of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), there are plans to install five substations for adequate, consistent, and high-quality electricity supply to the operating industries and local residents. These transmission lines are being set up for the upcoming days.

In the Parasi region, which has abundant potential for industrial expansion, there are plans to construct transmission lines for electricity supply by connecting Butwal, Sunwal, Gandak, and Hakuai 132 kV substations with the new Butwal 220 kV substation.

The Nepal Electricity Authority has advanced the construction of Sunwal-Hakui 132 KV double circuit transmission line for reliable and quality electricity supply to address the increasing demand for electricity in the Bhairahawa Industrial Corridor of Parasi and Rupandehi, to increase the transmission capacity, reduce technical leakage, and provide reliable and quality electricity. Gandak-Parasi 33 KV double circuit and Butwal-Jamire (Sunwal) 33 KV single circuit transmission lines are operational.

One of the three additional feeders of the 33 KV double circuit under construction for local power supply from Sunwal substation has come into operation. The Managing Director of the Authority, Kulman Ghising, inaugurated the double circuit line.

Ghising said that with the commissioning of the new line, infrastructure has been created for sufficient, reliable and quality electricity supply to the industries and local residents of the region. He directed to immediately complete the construction of two feeders of 33 KV double circuit under construction.

Previously, electricity was being supplied locally from Sunwal substation through three feeders of 33 KV to the cement and steel industries operating in that area. Besides, 11 kV feeder line has also been removed from the substation.

Large and small industries such as cement, steel etc. operating in Parasi area are currently consuming about 75 megawatts of electricity. It is projected that 150 megawatts of electricity will be consumed in that area, which is about 40 megawatts for capacity expansion of existing industries and newly opened industries. In addition, it is estimated that around 300 megawatts of electricity will be consumed in that area including Bhairahawa in Rupandehi district.

The Kaligandaki Hydroelectric Projects and their auxiliary rivers will be generating electricity through the Kaligandaki Corridor 200 kV transmission line, which will reach up to Nawalparasi’s Sunwal Municipality-13, Bhumhee-based Naya Butwal Substation. The construction of the Kaligandaki Corridor is scheduled to be completed within this Shrawan (July-August) month, and the aim is to operate it smoothly.

Additionally, electricity supply will be provided to the Naya Butwal Substation through the Hetauda-Bharatpur-Bardaghat and Bardaghat-Naya Butwal 220 kV transmission lines. This will establish Naya Butwal Substation as another major power hub for electricity supply in the region, and also facilitate electricity trading between Nepal and India in the area.

The transmission line from Hetuada to Bharatpur, which is 220 kilovolts, is currently operational at 132 kilovolts. The goal is to complete the Bharatpur-Bardaghat transmission line by this Shrawan (July-August) and the New Butwal-Bardaghat line by the upcoming Poush (December-January).

Currently, there is a problem with the capacity of the East-West 132-kilovolt transmission line for the electricity flow from Bharatpur to the west (Butwal). After the completion of the Hetuada-Bharatpur-Bardaghat and Bardaghat-New Butwal 220-kilovolt transmission lines, the issue will be resolved for the power flow.
