The Department of Roads (DoR) has prepared to make the bridges more attractive and durable by using a new construction technology. For this, the DoR has created a Design and Advance Technology Cell (DATC).

From now on, internal homework is being done to use the new technology for bridge construction, said the DoR staff. A few days ago, the DoR called the engineers of the DoR, Pulchowk Campus, Pokhara University and Nepali Army together to interact on the issues related to bridge construction using the new technology. Design engineers specializing in bridges shared their views in the meeting.

A total of 35 engineers participated in the meeting. The Bridge Branch of the DoR is planning to organize a similar program that will invite international bridge experts to share their knowledge.

According to Krishna Raj Adhikari, Senior Divisional Engineer of the Bridge Branch of the DoR, the bridge branch has prepared to build bridges based on new technology at Bijayapur in Pokhara and Narayani Bridge in Chitwan in the first phase. “A completely new technology will be used in the two bridges that are going to be built in the signature style. Also the design will be new. This will give us more experience", said Adhikari.

The DoR is making arrangements to implement new technology in bridge construction at various locations in addition to Pokhara and the Narayani River.

According to the officials of the DoR, the new bridge to be constructed will have four lanes or six lanes. Earlier, the two-lane bridge was being constructed. The cost of designing a bridge using new technology is approximately Rs 10 million, while the construction of such a bridge is expected to cost around Rs 3 billion, according to the Bridge Branch.
