Electricity generation from the Marsyangdi hydropower station located in Anbukhaireni Rural Municipality-4 of Tanahun has started decreasing. According to the station, the production has decreased by 16 megawatts due to the reduced water level in the river.

Pashupati Gautam, chief of the centre, said that the production decreased due to the dry season, as the water level in the rivers, springs and ponds has decreased and some of them have even dried up. He said that the centre with a capacity of 69 megawatts is currently producing only 53 megawatts.

The production of electricity will increase gradually from the month of Jestha as the snow will melt, and it will start raining. As electricity production falls during the dry season, the Nepal Electricity Authority has been importing it from India.

The electricity generated from this centre is connected to the national transmission line from Bharatpur in Chitwan through a station in Kathmandu.

Compensation distribution process in final stage

Meanwhile, the distribution of compensation for the land to be acquired for the dam side of the Marsyangdi hydropower project at Eklephant in Anbukhaireni Rural Municipality-2 of Tanahun has reached its final stage.

To permanently acquire the land of various people on the dam side of the hydropower centre, the compensation has been fixed and the distribution work has been forwarded, Gautam said. A meeting of the compensation determination committee chaired by the Chief District Officer on August 11, 2023, fixed the compensation amount for the land acquisition of 13 people and decided to distribute it.

Gautam said that more than 80 per cent of the compensation has been distributed and this work would be completed soon. According to the district administration office, Tanahun, the land compensation has been determined at Rs. 18.49 million per ropani.

According to the office, around 9 ropanis and 10 anas of land will be acquired for the dam. Around Rs. 217 million will be provided as compensation. According to the DAO, of that around Rs. 178 million will be distributed for land and Rs. 39.9 million for houses and other structures.

The project’s dam is acquiring the land after the settlement of that place was flooded and eroded. Due to the risk of human casualties, locals of that place have been demanding compensation and relocation to a safe place. Locals are now happy after their demand was addressed.
