The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued its downward trend, witnessing a significant drop of 31.49 points or 1.47%, settling at 2,098.69 points by the close of the trading day. This follows a previous decline of 25.63 points on Sunday.

Aligned with the overall market downturn, the sensitive index, evaluating ‘A’ class stocks, also saw a 1.25% decrease, while the float index, gauging actively traded shares, experienced a 1.50% dip.

In tandem with these declines, the daily turnover contracted to Rs 6.366 billion, derived from 18,043,244 units of shares from 307 companies in 150,543 transactions. This marks a notable decrease from Sunday’s intra-day turnover of Rs 7.677 billion. The market had achieved a peak daily turnover of Rs 9.768 billion just last Wednesday.

Across the board, sub-indices registered losses, except for the Trading Index, which recorded a modest gain of 0.35%. Notably, the hydropower index witnessed a decline of 2.24%, falling out of favor with investors and leading the pack of losers.

Of the companies listed, only the scrips of 36 companies advanced, while 209 witnessed declines, and two remained unchanged in terms of their share values.

Meanwhile, Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) maintained its position as the top company in terms of turnover, volume, and transactions. A total of 1,196,355 units of HRL shares were traded for Rs 786,383,492.50 in 36,353 transactions.
