Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, has stated that although electricity may occasionally come and go due to natural and technical reasons, load-shedding has now become a thing of the past. He made this statement during the 39th anniversary celebration of the Authority.

Ghising stated that the load-shedding, which was ended in the Kathmandu Valley starting from Laxmi Puja during Tihar in 2016, was successfully eliminated across the entire country by 2018 April. He mentioned that while the country once had to endure up to 18 hours of daily load-shedding, it has now reached a point where electricity is being exported to India.

He stated that during the monsoon season, Nepal has reached a point where it can export more than 700 megawatts of electricity. He mentioned that exporting electricity to India during the monsoon has helped reduce the trade deficit and earn foreign currency. Although some months still require importing electricity in the winter, he noted that the amount of import is gradually decreasing.
