The Nepal Electricity Authority is undertaking a campaign to ensure electricity reaches every household in Nawalparasi (west of Kawasoti), Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Palpa, Gulmi, and Arghakhanchi.

Preparations are underway to declare all six districts of Lumbini as a ‘Fully Electrified Zone’ by the 29th of May by ensuring electricity access to every household.

The Nepal Electricity Authority, Lumbini Province Office, Butwal, has stated that electrification work is being carried out rapidly in households without electricity, and once every house is connected, the area will be declared a ‘Fully Electrified Zone.’

“The 11 distribution centers under the authority’s provincial office are identifying households without electricity and working on expanding the power lines,” said Hari Prasad Pandey, Chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Lumbini Province Office. “We have also issued a notice requesting immediate information if any households remain unelectrified or have been left out.”

Preparations are underway to declare a ‘Fully Electrified Zone’ by ensuring electricity access to every household in Nawalparasi (west of Kawasoti), Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Palpa, Gulmi, and Arghakhanchi.

The number of domestic electricity consumers in these districts stands at 529,000. The Nepal Electricity Authority estimates that around 500 households in these areas remain without electricity for the declaration of a ‘Fully Electrified Zone.’

As part of this effort, electrification work is currently underway in households in Sitganga Municipality-11 and 9 of Arghakhanchi, Bardghat of Nawalparasi, Butwal, and some settlements in Kapilvastu.

“Although a ‘Fully Electrified Zone’ can be declared once more than 95% of households have electricity access, this time we aim to achieve 100% electrification before making the announcement,” said Pandey. “While the target for declaring full electrification was set for the current fiscal year, we have already initiated preparations to make the announcement ahead of schedule.”

The distribution centers of the authority in Arghakhanchi, Gulmi, Palpa, Butwal, Bhairahawa, Nayamill, Amuwa, Tolihwa, Krishnanagar, Bardghat, and Parasi are identifying households without electricity.

An official from the Nepal Electricity Authority stated that despite villages being fully electrified, some local representatives from Terai municipalities are refusing to recommend full electrification, demanding a separate electricity supply for irrigation.
