In the first 11 months of the current Fiscal Year (FY), Nepal imported petroleum products worth Rs 174.09 billion through the Birgunj customs point, including diesel, petrol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene.

While the overall import value decreased by Rs 1.05 billion compared to the same period last year, revenue generated from these imports rose by 11.66 percent, or Rs 7.64 billion. According to Birgunj Customs Chief Deepak Lamichhane, petroleum remained the top source of revenue for the office.

During this period, diesel imports reached 10.3 million kiloliters, valued at Rs 89.76 billion, compared to 9.21 million kiloliters worth Rs 93.63 billion last year. Revenue from diesel rose to Rs 41.03 billion from Rs 36.04 billion. Similarly, 413,504 kiloliters of petrol worth Rs 35.34 billion were imported, slightly less than last year's 361,727 kiloliters valued at Rs 36.04 billion. However, revenue from petrol rose to Rs 23.38 billion from Rs 20.73 billion. LPG imports stood at 291.4 million kilograms, valued at Rs 33.35 billion, up from 257.9 million kilograms worth Rs 27.71 billion last year, contributing Rs 6.24 billion in revenue, an increase from Rs 5.16 billion.

ATF imports amounted to 167,398 kiloliters worth Rs 15.03 billion, a decrease from last year’s 161,892 kiloliters valued at Rs 17.11 billion. Revenue from ATF dropped slightly to Rs 2.35 billion from Rs 2.47 billion. Kerosene imports also saw a minor change, with 6,730 kiloliters worth Rs 590 million imported, compared to 6,120 kiloliters worth Rs 630 million last year. Revenue from kerosene remained stable at Rs 160 million. Despite the decline in volume and value for some fuel types, increased tax rates helped boost overall revenue collection.
