The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has adopted a high level of alertness to prevent potential damage to electrical infrastructure due to heavy and extremely heavy rainfall, which could lead to floods, landslides, and inundation. Employees have been kept on standby to immediately repair and restore power supply in case of any disruption caused by damage to the infrastructure.

NEA Managing Director Manoj Silwal stated that advance preparations have been made by assessing potential damage to key infrastructures such as grid substations, powerhouses, distribution substations, and transmission lines that could be affected by disasters.

At hydropower dam sites, where typically 3 employees per shift are deployed to operate the gates, arrangements have been made to increase this to 6 employees per shift in light of the disaster risk. Pumps have been prepared in advance to drain water in case substations are submerged. Transmission towers located in landslide-prone areas have been covered with tarpaulin as a preventive measure.

Managing Director Silwal further mentioned that in case of any damage to electrical infrastructure, the public can immediately inform the relevant distribution center, the "No Light" or Helpdesk, or call the hotline number 1150, and a repair team will be dispatched promptly upon receiving the information.
