A courtesy meeting was held between Kulman Ghising, Nepal’s Minister of Energy, Water Resources & Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure & Transport, and Urban Development, and Udo Eugen Volz, the German Ambassador to Nepal.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation in Singha Durbar, Ambassador Volz congratulated Minister Ghising on behalf of Germany and wished him a successful tenure. Discussions focused on economic cooperation between Germany and Nepal, the German-assisted solar power project, the Lekhnath-Damauli 220 kV transmission line project, and potential areas of assistance for energy transformation. Minister Ghising urged Germany to increase its support to Nepal.

Highlighting the long-standing cooperation between Nepal and Germany, Minister Ghising noted that the Madhya Marsyangdi and Marsyangdi Hydropower Projects, constructed with German support, are a lifeline for Nepal’s energy sector.

Emphasizing the importance of the Pokhara-Butwal-Bharatpur Green Triangle Project, advanced with joint assistance from Germany and the European Union and expected to be completed by 2029, Minister Ghising said work will begin immediately to expand and improve the transmission and distribution network, encouraging electricity use for both household needs and electric vehicles in the area.

With the expansion of roads connecting Pokhara, Butwal, and Bharatpur, Minister Ghising requested support for studies on operating trolleybuses, establishing charging stations, and managing the increasing electricity load. He also emphasized the need to expand and improve the transmission and distribution system accordingly.

He requested international experts, as domestic specialists are unavailable to assess and oversee the reconstruction of public and government structures damaged during the Jen-Z movement.

Ambassador Volz informed that Germany plans to send a team in December to identify sectors for assistance to Nepal and to consult on the review of ongoing aid for the next two years.
