- The construction of the dam, tunnel, and powerhouse is moving forward at a rapid pace.

The Upper Myagdi-1 Hydropower Project, currently under construction with a capacity of 53.5 megawatts in Dhaulagiri and Malika rural municipalities of Myagdi, has achieved 30 percent physical progress.

The project, promoted by Upper Myagdi Hydropower Limited, has accelerated the construction works of the dam, tunnel, and powerhouse. Project Chief Jyoti Kumar KC informed that within one year, the project has achieved 30.94 percent physical progress and 30.80 percent financial progress.

Tunnel excavation is being carried out from four points. In line with the target of starting electricity generation by February/March 2027, we have accelerated the construction of the powerhouse and dam as well,” he said. Out of the total 5,789.71 meters of tunnel, 2,360 meters have been completed so far.

The dam construction site has achieved 45 percent physical progress. For the project, an agreement was signed with Luna Builders and Contractor on April 1, 2024.

A 15-meter-high and 40-meter-long dam is being constructed at Khamla in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 to divert the water of the Myagdi River into the tunnel. Three water-settling ponds, each 100 meters long and 15 meters high, are also under construction near the dam site.

A study is underway for a 1.5-kilometer, 132 kV transmission line to connect the powerhouse to the 132 kV substation under construction at Dandakhet in Malika Rural Municipality-7.

The powerhouse of the project, which will be built with an investment of 11.23 billion rupees through loans from six banks led by Sanima Bank, along with shares from the promoting company and the general public, will be located at Bharwang in Malika Rural Municipality-7. The project is expected to supply an annual average of 315.01 GWh of electricity to the national grid.
