Humla: About 125 kilowatts of electricity has been produced and used in four villages of the same rural municipality through the Himali Solar Mini-Grid programme.
Consumers have been able to consume electricity after generating it through the Alternative Energy Programme of the government and cost sharing of Karnali Province government. Janaki Thapa of Sirupata village of Tanjakot Rural Municipality-4 said that she was able to consume the electricity produced by the solar mini-grid constructed in the village.
With the start of electricity production from the mini-grid, the residents of the village no longer had to light using oil lamps.
About 20 kilowatts of electricity has been produced and used for the said village, she said.
Chairman of Tanjakot Rural Municipality Lalkesh Jaishi said that 125 kilowatts of electricity has been produced and used in four settlements of Ward No. 4 and 5 of the municipality from the solar mini-grid.
He said that 20 kilowatts in Sirupata and 50 kilowatts in Gothel of Ward Nos. 4 and 15 kilowatts in Chihi and 40 kilowatts in Lotpata of Ward No. 5 have been produced.
With the generation of electricity from mini-grid, both the wards were electrified.
For this, with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank, the mini-grid was constructed with a total cost of Rs. 88.4 million. A total of Rs. 80 million (90 per cent of total cost) received from the Alternative Energy Programme in support of ADB and Rs. 8.4 million (10 per cent of cost) from the Karnali Bright Programme of the Karnali Province government.
As a result, more than 500 households in both wards have been benefited. It took two years to construct the project.
With the start of electricity production, local businessmen have started hatchery machine installation and the wood industry. |
