Information technology experts have said that Nepal can generate more than Rs 100 billion annually through the production of IT human resources.

At a group discussion hosted by the Nepali Congress’s Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Department today, speakers said that good results can be achieved even with a small investment in the IT sector.

The discussion session was titled ‘Entrepreneurship and Human Resource Development: Preparing for the IT Sector’ on the second day of the Nepal Startup and SME conference held at the NC Central Office in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

Head of Innovative Nepal Group, Sulabh Budhathoki, said that investment in developing skilled human resource is necessary as there are many opportunities in Nepal’s IT sector. He said that if human resource is produced as per the requirement, IT services worth more than Rs 100 billion can be exported annually.

At the program, Tribhuvan University Dean Prof Dr Mahanananda Chalise said that the state should pay attention to technical education and to the technical aspect in education. He added that the government brings policies but does not include provisions on how to connect students to the technical sector.

CNAS Executive Director Mirgendra Karki said that it would be easier to transform the economy as a whole if the state were to promote the products produced within the country.

Young Innovation founder Bibhushan Bista said that if the state introduced a policy to include the IT sector five times more human resources could be produced than at present and services could be exported accordingly. It is necessary to include entrepreneurship in education.

Similarly, Karvika Thapa, CEO of Khimbu Tech, said that success can be achieved only when one is able to choose a subject of one's interest and work on it.

Department coordinator Urmila Thapaliya believed that the conference would encourage entrepreneurs and businesspersons who have just started their businesses.
