Birgunj Customs Office collected the highest amount of revenue i.e. Rs 73.18 billion, from the import of petroleum products during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year 2024/25.

According to the office, imports of five categories of petroleum products totaled Rs 174.09 billion during this period. Petroleum alone contributed 46.43 percent of the revenue collected from the top 20 imported goods.

Chief Customs Administrator Deepak Lamichhane stated that petroleum and vehicle imports form the backbone of the customs revenue at Birgunj. The second-highest contribution came from vehicles and spare parts, generating Rs 17.70 billion, accounting for 11.23 percent of total revenue from imports.

Additionally, imports of iron and iron-based goods brought in Rs 5.78 billion in revenue, machinery and parts Rs 5.26 billion, and electric machinery and parts Rs 3.67 billion.

Clothing imports generated Rs 3.06 billion in revenue. Meanwhile, tobacco and related products contributed Rs 2.58 billion, cosmetic items Rs 2.52 billion, plastic raw materials Rs 2.32 billion, and lubricating oils Rs 2.19 billion, according to Lamichhane.
