The 11 MW Upper Tadi Khola Hydropower Project has begun commercial electricity production.

Suryakunda Hydroelectric Limited constructed the 11 MW Upper Tadi Khola Hydropower Project in Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality, Nuwakot district.

According to the company, the project completed the construction on July 2, 2025 and successfully completed a 15-day trial.

After the successful completion of the trial phase, commercial electricity production of the project has been started by regularly supplying electricity to the national transmission system from July 28, 2025.

Suryakunda Hydro Electric Limited is a company established with the objective of developing and operating energy projects. Api Power Company Limited has a majority stake in this company.

The project had signed a power purchase agreement with the Nepal Electricity Authority on March 16, 2012.

Similarly, the production license was obtained from the Department of Electricity Development in October 2015.

The intake of the project is at an altitude of about 1.500 metres and the powerhouse is at an altitude of 1,282 metres, according to the company.

The project has been designed to generate a total of 11 MW from two turbine units (5.5 MW each) installed in the powerhouse.

The diversion dam and auxiliary structures have been designed keeping in mind the 100-year recurrence of flood, the volume of which is estimated to be 247 cubic metres per second.

The electricity generated by the project, which is connected to the Samundratar Substation in Nuwakot district through a switchyard, has started being supplied to the national grid through a 6-kilometre long 33 kV transmission line.

This plant is expected to generate 61.319 gigawatt hours of electricity annually. Of this, 50.893 GWh is expected to be generated during the rainy season and 10.425 GWh during the dry season.

The company's initial public offering (IPO) process is in progress and is in the pipeline of the Security Board of Nepal (SEBON), according to the company.

This project is expected to contribute further to the national electricity supply, including Bagmati Province.
