On Monday, Minister Kulman Ghising of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development visited the Middle Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project, which is currently undergoing testing for commercial production.

Minister Ghising inspected the 102-megawatt hydropower project constructed in Sindhupalchok. The project, which has completed construction, is currently on its second day of the 72-hour test run required for commercial electricity production, according to project officials.

When Minister Ghising was the Managing Director of Chilime Hydropower Company, the project reached the construction phase under his leadership, with detailed studies, power purchase agreements, financial arrangements, and contract agreements completed. During testing, the project is generating its full capacity of 102 megawatts, which is being fed into the national transmission system.

The construction of the project faced delays due to factors such as landslides, the 2015 earthquake, flooding in the Bhotekoshi River, the COVID-19 pandemic, and local obstructions.
