Assurance Needed That There Will Be No Attacks on Business and Personal Property: FNCCI

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged the government to ensure that no attacks will take place on business and personal properties in the future.

The FNCCI delegation, led by its President Chandra Prasad Dhakal, made this appeal during a meeting with Minister for Industry, Commerce, Supplies, and Law, Anil Kumar Sinha at the Ministry of Industry on Thursday.

Highlighting the infiltration during the recent youth (Gen Z) movement, which resulted in vandalism and arson targeting not just public properties but also the industries, establishments, offices, and residences of industrialists and businesspersons, the FNCCI emphasized the need for such assurances to uplift the morale of the general public and the business community.

On the occasion, President Dhakal drew the Minister’s attention to the importance of guaranteeing that such attacks do not occur again in the future and that strict action is taken against those responsible. He informed that during the movement, attacks and vandalism caused damages worth approximately NPR 80 billion to businesses and industrial establishments across the country.

“For the country's prosperity, the FNCCI is ready to coordinate and collaborate with the government in establishing good governance by ending uncertainty. The private sector, which contributes 81% to the economy and 86% to employment, must be guaranteed the ability to operate without obstruction,” President Dhakal stated.

Minister Anil Kumar Sinha acknowledged the goodwill and cooperation demonstrated by the private sector despite the heavy losses and appreciated their proactive approach. He remarked that although the current government was formed under unusual circumstances, it is serious about ensuring the safety of both the general public and the business community. He emphasized that the revival and improvement of the country’s industrial sector would not be possible without the support of the private sector.

FNCCI Senior Vice President Anjan Shrestha expressed that the private sector is targeted in every protest, and therefore, a change in the perception towards the private sector is necessary. He also highlighted the importance of using domestic products as much as possible during reconstruction efforts.

Vice President Shrestha further suggested that since Nepal is set to graduate from the category of least developed countries (LDCs) in November 2026, the government should appeal to the United Nations to postpone the graduation decision due to the current circumstances.

Likewise, Vice Presidents Hemraj Dhakal and Jyotsna Shrestha, along with Treasurer Bharatraj Acharya, emphasized that ensuring the rule of law should be the current top priority. They stressed the need to establish good governance at all levels by creating a corruption-free society in line with the aspirations of the youth (Gen Z) movement and stated that the general public now expects this from the current government.
