Nepal Investment Mega Bank (NIMB) is pleased to mark the official signing of its Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness and Preparatory Support Grant Agreement through a virtual ceremony held on 9 February 2026, attended by the GCF, senior representatives from the Ministry of Finance (National Designated Authority), and NIMB.

As the first private sector Direct Access Entity to receive GCF Readiness support, the Readiness grant, valued at approximately USD 1 million, will support institutional strengthening, knowledge sharing, and the development of a pipeline of climate projects. The program will enhance NIMB’s fiduciary systems, governance frameworks, and environmental and social safeguards, while building the technical capacity required to identify, structure, and prepare investment-ready climate projects.

Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Jyoti Prakash Pandey, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Investment Mega Bank, stated: “Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in Nepal’s climate finance ecosystem. This support will strengthen institutional readiness and enable the private sector to translate climate ambition into investible projects.”

Dr. Achala Abeysinghe, GCF’s Director of the Department of Investment Services, noted that catalysing a range of climate finance instruments would also support job creation and small and medium-sized enterprises in Nepal. “This is a very important milestone, and it takes GCF a step further in our partnership with NIMB and indeed the country of Nepal,” Abeysinghe said.

In addition, the initiative will strengthen Nepal’s broader climate finance ecosystem by promoting knowledge dissemination, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration among financial institutions, project developers, and public sector partners - improving market readiness, reinforcing sector-wide standards, and supporting the creation of bankable climate projects capable of attracting future public and private investment.
