Newly appointed Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, has stated that no citizen should be deprived of benefits from the energy sector.

Addressing staff after assuming office at the ministry today, Minister Shrestha highlighted that the demand for clean energy is rapidly increasing in the 21st century and emphasized that timely policies will be formulated to accelerate energy development. “The demand for clean energy is growing even more in the 21st century, so we will develop policies accordingly and focus on the development of clean energy,” he said. He also mentioned that coordination with the Ministry of Finance will be carried out to create an investment-friendly environment in the energy sector, and that inter-ministerial cooperation will focus on the overall development of the energy and irrigation sectors.

He stressed the need to end situations where arable land remains barren due to water shortages and announced the formation of a special team to establish water recharge systems in both urban and rural areas. Additionally, he said that the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre will be further strengthened to promote the development of alternative energy.

Minister Shrestha also pointed out that since the 21st century is an era of research and innovation, more research is necessary in the energy and irrigation sectors. He added that a committee will be formed according to the Governance Act to ensure good governance in the ministry, and financial governance will be promoted effectively.

Referring to complaints received and challenges identified within the ministry, Minister Shrestha instructed staff to study and find solutions, and also directed that updates about the ministry’s activities be shared with the media on a weekly basis.
