The cost of the Kali Gandaki reservoir-based hydropower project is projected to decrease. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) report, along with recommendations, has been made public, projecting a cost reduction for the 640 MW hydropower project by NPR 120 billion.

Originally, the project cost was projected at NPR 345 billion. However, due to a reduction in the dam height and a decrease in project capacity, the estimated cost is now lower. The report estimates the project cost to be NPR 225 billion.

The catchment area from the dam site is about 6,828.37 square kilometers.

The project proponent is the Department of Electricity Development. The plan includes constructing a 244-meter-high dam, four steel penstocks, a powerhouse, and four Francis turbines.
