The government has urged people to work from home, citing a worsening fuel crisis caused by war.

As the global fuel shortage deepens and prices continue to rise sharply, the government has encouraged remote work to reduce fuel consumption.

Speaking about the decisions made during Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, Minister Pratibha Rawal called on people to carry out office work from home.

She also informed that, in order to sell fuel at relatively lower prices in Nepal, the government has decided to provide a 50% discount on the infrastructure development tax imposed on petrol, diesel, and kerosene. This decision will be published in the official gazette.

She stated: “Fuel prices have increased in the global market. To make fuel somewhat cheaper in Nepal, a decision has been made to provide a 50% discount on the infrastructure development tax on petrol, diesel, and kerosene, and to publish this in the gazette. Price adjustment is necessary. The government does not hide this fact. Therefore, adjusting petroleum prices seems practical. To control fuel consumption, measures such as a public holiday on Sundays, delaying the opening of educational institutions until Baisakh 15, controlling wholesale distribution, and reducing fuel quotas for high-ranking officials have already been implemented. If necessary, an odd-even system will be enforced. The government urges the public to adopt work-from-home practices and increase the use of electric alternatives.”
