Petroleum imports through the Birgunj border point reached Rs 181.70 billion during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, marking a significant increase compared to the same period last year.

According to the Birgunj Customs Office, imports of six types of petroleum products rose by Rs 25.53 billion, or 16.35 percent, year-on-year. During the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, petroleum imports through the border point were valued at Rs 156.17 billion.

Information Officer Uday Singh Bista said the customs office collected Rs 67.19 billion in revenue from petroleum imports during the review period.

Diesel remained the largest imported petroleum product. The country imported 895,246 kilolitres of diesel worth Rs 100.57 billion in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. In the same period last fiscal year, 900,857 kilolitres of diesel worth Rs 79.57 billion had been imported.

Similarly, petrol imports stood at 390,615 kilolitres worth Rs 35.79 billion, compared to 367,344 kilolitres valued at Rs 31.71 billion in the corresponding period last year.

Imports of LPG gas, however, declined during the period. Nepal imported 242.7 million kilograms of LPG worth Rs 25.54 billion in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, down from 264.1 million kilograms worth Rs 30.28 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
