The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has assured the public that the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for cooking will return to normal within the next few days, urging consumers not to be misled by rumors or engage in panic buying.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ministry spokesperson Netra Prasad Subedi said that LPG imports and distribution are currently exceeding the volume required to meet regular market demand compared to the same period last year.

The ministry stated that it is working closely with relevant stakeholders to maintain a balance between rising demand and supply while making the distribution system more efficient.

It added that the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has intensified market inspections to ensure smooth distribution and prevent irregularities.

In coordination with the Nepal Oil Corporation and LPG bottling companies, the government has also launched reforms aimed at making the import, storage, and distribution of cooking gas more transparent, reliable, and predictable.

The ministry has instructed suppliers to prioritize households that do not have access to an alternative LPG cylinder, ensuring that essential users receive uninterrupted service.

Warning against market manipulation, the ministry said that anyone found creating an artificial shortage, engaging in black marketing, violating existing laws, or causing unnecessary hardship to consumers will face strict legal action.

The government has appealed to consumers to purchase LPG only according to their actual needs and avoid unnecessary stockpiling, stressing that responsible consumer behavior is essential to maintaining a stable supply across the country.
