The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has urged consumers to purchase only the amount of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) they currently need, saying the supply situation is improving compared to the past and there is no need for unnecessary stockpiling.

Speaking at a press conference held at the ministry on Friday, Ministry spokesperson Netra Prasad Subedi said the government was working to make the sale and distribution of LPG more convenient and reliable.

“Let us purchase only the amount we currently need. Consumers should not worry that they may not find gas later. We should also avoid unnecessary stockpiling,” Subedi said.

According to Subedi, a total of 2,781 LPG gas bullets were imported from India between Shrawan 1 and 29 (July 17 to Aug 14) of the Nepali calendar.

An average of 132,000 cylinders are currently being distributed in the market each day, up from the previous daily average of around 110,000 cylinders, according to Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).

On Shrawan 26 (Aug 11) alone, 134 LPG bullets were imported into Nepal.

Subedi said the ministry was coordinating with concerned agencies to further improve the supply and distribution system and maintain a balance between rising demand and available supply.

Nepal is currently receiving around 49,500 metric tonnes of LPG every month on a regular basis

In view of growing demand, the government has requested the Indian government, through Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to increase the monthly supply to 60,000 metric tonnes for three months.
