As electric vehicle (EV) adoption continues to grow in Nepal, the development of skilled technical manpower has become increasingly important.

In this context, a 30-member delegation from the Nepal Auto Mechanics Federation visited the manufacturing facility of Shineray Motors (SRM) in Fuling, Chongqing, China, gaining first-hand exposure to EV manufacturing and technology.

The delegation visited the SRM factory on Aug 11 and 12 as part of an initiative supported and sponsored by VG Motors, the authorized distributor of SRM and Joylong electric vehicles in Nepal, and Shineray Motors.

During the visit, the participating technicians toured SRM’s production facilities and observed vehicle assembly and manufacturing processes, quality-control systems, testing procedures and EV-related technologies.

They also interacted with SRM’s technical experts and exchanged knowledge on various aspects of EV technology, production and servicing.

The factory visits provided Nepalese automotive technicians with an opportunity to understand the manufacturing and engineering processes behind electric vehicles beyond the conventional workshop environment.

It also enabled them to connect their practical knowledge of vehicle servicing with the actual production, testing and quality-control processes used by an international automobile manufacturer.

VG Motors has been expanding its presence in Nepal’s electric commercial vehicle market while also focusing on technical capacity building. The company has been organizing mechanic meets in different parts of the country and providing technical training and on-site support to address EV- related issues.

According to VG Motors, the first phase of its EV technical training has already been completed, and preparations are underway for a second level of training.

The next phase is expected to focus on identifying and using tools required for EV servicing and maintenance, along with other practical aspects of working with electric vehicles.

The factory visit builds on EV technical training previously provided by VG Motors to members of the Nepal Auto Mechanic Federation.

While the earlier training focused primarily on practical aspects of EV diagnosis, servicing and maintenance, the factory visit offered a broader perspective by exposing technicians to the technology from the manufacturing and engineering side.

VG Motors Stated that the combined initiatives are intended to strengthen technicians’ technical knowledge, confidence and ability to work with rapidly evolving electric vehicle technologies.

Shineray Motors (SRM) is a Chinese automobile manufacturer with operations spanning passenger and commercial vehicles, motorcycles, agricultural machinery and electric mobility. Its manufacturing facilities incorporate modern production processes, quality-control systems, testing procedures and EV technologies.

The visit was supported and sponsored by SRM and VG Motors, with travel and hospitality arrangements provided for the participating delegation.

The initiative reflects the companies’ efforts to provide Nepal’s automotive professionals with opportunities for technical learning and international exposure.

As Nepal’s automotive industry shifts increasingly toward electric mobility, the role of automotive technicians is also evolving.

EV servicing requires knowledge beyond conventional mechanical systems, including electrical systems, battery technology, electronic components, diagnostics, vehicle safety and increasingly software-based technologies.

Commercial Head Sajal Shrestha of VG Motors emphasized that introducing new technology alone was not enough and that developing the human resources capable of supporting the technology was equally important.

“The future of mobility is not only about introducing new technology; it is also about developing the people who will support that technology. Technicians are an essential part of the EV ecosystem.

Providing them with the right training and exposure will help build confidence, improve after-sales support and prepare Nepal’s automotive workforce for the future,” he said.

With EV adoption continuing to increase in Nepal, a skilled technician workforce will be essential to ensuring quality maintenance, accurate diagnosis and dependable after-sales service.

Industry stakeholders believe that strengthening technical capacity will also contribute to greater consumer confidence in electric mobility.

VG Motors announced plans to continue collaborating with SRM, the Nepal Auto Mechanics Federation and other industry stakeholders to contribute to the development of a more skilled, capable and future-ready automotive workforce as Nepal moves toward an increasingly electric mobility landscape.
