Waste-to-energy plant in operation in Nawalparasi

Envipower Energy and Fertiliser Pvt Ltd, a modern biogas plant which was constructed at a cost of Rs 120 million has started generating gas from garbage in Sukrauli of Western Nawalparasi.

Officials of the gas plant said they had used perishable waste as raw material to sell gas in cylinders. The biogas plant, which spreads across an area of 3,750 square metres, has the capacity to generate 120 cylinders of gas everyday. Gas plant manager Prakash Aryal said his firm was producing 12 tonnes of fertiliser from garbage collected by the local levels on a daily basis.

“Our motto is to manage perishable garbage,” Aryal said, adding, “We are producing gas from the garbage collected by local levels,” he added.

To operate the plant spread in around three bigaha land, the Government of Nepal had provided a grant amount of Rs 50 million. The plant is generating gas from garbage, chicken manure, and cow dung, among others.

The plant has taken 15 bigaha land on lease and has cultivated maize on the land in a bid to use maize plants as raw material to produce biological manure.

The biogas plant, brought into operation to reduce the use of LP gas, has started selling gas in Nawalparasi’sParasi and Rupandehi’s Bhairahawa. The gas plant sells one gas cylinder at Rs 900. Proprietor Sandip Agrawal said they would soon start selling gas for household use.

The gas company claims that heating power of the gas is 25 per cent higher than that of LP gas. The gas company has set a plan to collaborate with local levels in Banke, Nawalparasi, Dang and Rupandehi for raw materials. “We aim to supply gas to the kitchens of customers through pipeline in the market area of Ramgram Municipality.”
