Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has received orders, valued at INR3,200 Crore (US$435.6 million), for electromechanical works for the 960-MW Polavaram Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Andhra Pradesh, India and electromechanical works of pump-motor sets for lift irrigation schemes (LIS) in Telangana, India.

The order for Polavaram HEP includes manufacture and supply of 12 80-MW Kaplan turbines, India’s highest unit-rating Kaplans. Polavaram HEP, being developed by Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO), is located in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

The pump-motor sets order for LIS projects in Telangana includes 15 sets (1,992 MW) for the Kaleshwaram LIS and 13 sets (1,885 MW) for the Palamuru Rangareddy LIS. These LIS projects are being developed by the Irrigation and CAD Department, Govt. of Telangana. BHEL is also executing another order for 18 pump-motor sets for the Palamuru Rangareddy LIS in Telangana.

The orders were received from the EPC contractor for the projects, M/s Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Limited (MEIL). BHEL’s scope of work in all the above projects includes design, engineering, manufacturing, supply and supervision of erection, testing and commissioning of the equipment and associated auxiliaries.
