The government has decided to make public the report of the commission formed under the chairmanship of former judge Girish Chandra Lal for the settlement of electricity tariff arrears.

A minister said that Tuesday’s cabinet meeting decided to make the report of the commission public when the government and the Nepal Electricity Authority were at odds over the arrears of dedicated and trunk lines.

The authority has cut off the electricity on Katik 8 for non-payment of dedicated and trunk line dues. Industrialists are saying that they are ready to pay dues if the Red Commission report is implemented literally.

The Lal Commission suggested that in the case of the period from BS 2072 Magh to BS 2075 Baisakh, when using dedicated and trunk lines, the tariff can be charged by determining the days and periods of electricity supply according to the specified standards. According to the authority, the total outstanding amount to be paid by the industrialists during this period is 6.6 billion rupees. Since 60 days have been cut off to pay the electricity bill, the authority has asked the industry to pay by adding 25 percent additional fee.
