Energy developers who also owe outstanding dues to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) will see their pending amounts deducted directly from the payments they are supposed to receive under their power purchase agreements (PPAs). The NEA has issued an official notice to energy developers outlining this policy, stating that monthly payments owed to them will be adjusted to recover unpaid dues.

According to the notice, NEA plans to withhold payments owed under the PPAs until all outstanding dues from dedicated and trunk electricity lines used by the industries linked to these developers are cleared. “Unpaid electricity charges from various consumers, companies, or institutions with financial interests or ties to energy developers will be systematically deducted from payments due under PPAs until the outstanding dues are fully settled. Relevant developers and companies have been notified accordingly,” reads the third clause of a letter sent by the NEA to the Commission on Wednesday.

NEA Spokesperson Chandan Kumar Ghosh confirmed this step, explaining, “We have informed energy developers that if they are also involved in industries consuming electricity through dedicated or trunk lines with unpaid premium charges, the NEA will deduct the outstanding amounts monthly from their payments under the power purchase agreements.”

This policy aims to ensure that all dues are collected systematically while maintaining transparency and accountability in electricity billing and payments.
