Nepal imported petroleum products worth Rs 101 billion in the first five months of the current fiscal year 2024/25. The government has collected Rs 41 billion in revenue from the import.

During the same period last year, Nepal imported petroleum products worth Rs 111.7 billion. This year, the import of petrol, aviation fuel and LP gas has increased, while the import of diesel has decreased.

According to the data of the Department of Customs, the import of petrol has increased by 8.6 percent this year. In five months, 306,229 kiloliters of petrol worth Rs 26.45 billion was imported.

The import of aviation fuel increased by 12.76 percent. A total of 89,545 kiloliters of aviation fuel was imported in the first five months of this fiscal year. In the first five months of last fiscal year, 78,112 kiloliters of aviation fuel was imported.

The import of LP gas increased by 1.6 percent. From mid-July to mid-December, 217.7 million Kg of LP gas equivalent to Rs 24.22 billion was imported. During the same period last year, 214.2 million kg of LP gas was imported.

According to the department, the import of diesel has decreased by 3.6 percent. This year, 472,807 kiloliters of diesel worth Rs 42.17 billion was imported in the five months. During the same period last year, 489,936 kiloliters of diesel was imported.

The amount spent on petrol import has decreased a bit this year. This year till Mangsir, Rs 26.45 billion has been spent on petrol import. Last year this amount was Rs 28.55 billion.
