After nearly 80 percent of the construction work of the 900-megawatt Arun 3 Hydropower Project has been completed, around 400 families are set to receive compensation for the remaining land.

The Supreme Court issued a mandamus on December 26, directing the District Administration Office of Sankhuwasabha to provide payment within a month, as per the notice published on April 6 . At that time, the District Administration had set the compensation rate for 524 ropanis of land on the 24-kilometer access road from Chhyangkuti to the power plant at NPR 11.75 million per ropani. Subsequently, Arun 3 Power Development Company Limited deposited NPR 530 million into the administration’s escrow account for the affected individuals.

Around 400 households’ properties have been affected by the access road of the project. Chief District Officer Binod Kumar Khadka stated that a letter has been sent to the Home Administration following the Supreme Court’s mandamus. Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had already announced the completion of the tunnel work for the Arun 3 Hydropower Project on June 4, 2024, after the breakthrough of the main tunnel.
