The Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, has stated that in order to promote electric vehicles, charging stations need to be increased across the country.

On Thursday, while participating in the IPPAN EV Rally organized on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal (IPPAN), Ghising made this statement. He mentioned that the use of electric vehicles in Nepal has increased recently. He also highlighted that not only private vehicles but also passenger vehicles across the country are now being converted into electric vehicles. He stated that the transition of passenger vehicles to electric is a significant change.

He mentioned that recently there has been an increase in electric vehicles across Nepal. He said, “There has been a shift to electric vehicles for transportation. This is a major change. Recently, there has been an increase in electric vehicles throughout Nepal. It is a campaign to boost electricity demand. The campaign has received great support. 70 percent of the electric vehicles have been bought and sold.”

He mentioned that the authority has a campaign to increase electricity demand within the country and stated that the IPPAN EV rally has greatly supported this campaign. He noted that recently, 70 percent of electric vehicles have been bought and sold. He emphasized that promoting electric vehicles is not just about buying electric vehicles. He highlighted the need to build the necessary infrastructure for electric vehicles across the country. Ghising stated that it is essential to establish electric charging stations throughout the country. He mentioned that the government has incentivized the private sector with substantial benefits, and as a result, more than 600 charging stations have been built solely by the private sector.

He said, “Promoting electric vehicles is not just about buying electric vehicles. It is essential to build the necessary infrastructure for electric vehicles across the country, including establishing electric charging stations. We have provided substantial incentives to the private sector. Currently, more than 600 charging stations have been built solely by the private sector. There is still a need to build more across the country. Currently, the private sector has applied for 500 charging stations. This has also created employment opportunities.”

The Chairman of the Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal (IPPAN), Ganesh Karki, stated that it is necessary to consume the electricity produced in Nepal within the country. He mentioned that electricity production is increasing and emphasized the need to increase domestic consumption. He also stressed that the government should create an environment where everyone uses electric vehicles.
