The Alternative Energy Promotion Center is set to organize an ‘International Clean Energy’ conference on the occasion of International Clean Energy Day. During a press conference held on Monday, the center announced that the conference will take place from January 26 to 28 to celebrate the day.

The United Nations has been observing January 26 every year as International Clean Energy Day since 2024, with the objective of raising awareness and implementing activities aimed at the fair and inclusive transformation of clean energy for the benefit of the Earth and all living beings, including humanity, residing on it.

The center has stated that on the first day of the conference, there will be interactions with stakeholders regarding the problems, challenges, and opportunities in this sector. On the second day, the focus will be on providing information about the status of renewable energy and energy efficiency, government priorities and requirements, understanding the priorities of development partners, and discussing future collaborations with them. On the third day of the conference, a session on clean energy transformation for a resilient and low-carbon-based economy will be organized.

The Executive Director of the Center, Nawaraj Dhakal, informed that on the final day of the event, various presentations will be held to facilitate experience sharing among stakeholders, discuss investment opportunities, and formulate necessary strategies to accelerate clean energy transformation in support of developing a resilient and low-carbon-based economy in Nepal.

“The conference will provide an opportunity to bring together national and international governmental and non-governmental organizations related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate change, as well as provincial and local governments, research and academic institutions, development partners, investors, practitioners in the field, the private sector, media, civil society, and experts in the sector in one platform,” he said.

According to the center, the conference will have the participation of more than 350 individuals. Additionally, the event will be supported by over 10 different organizations.

He stated that the main objective of the conference is to identify sectoral needs, opportunities, and challenges, prioritize investment-ready projects, explore investment possibilities and opportunities for resource mobilization for clean energy transformation, and facilitate experience-sharing on successful projects and initiatives related to Nepal’s energy transformation and climate change, in the context of current development partnerships and future investment choices in this sector.

The conference will also focus on presenting potential investment-ready projects, promoting investment growth, and producing, publishing, and distributing knowledge-based materials. “It is expected that the identification of sectoral needs for energy transformation, investment requirements for energy transformation, and mechanisms for climate finance will strengthen investment growth and enhance development cooperation,” he said.

The conference is also expected to contribute to the effective implementation of the Energy Development Roadmap and Action Plan, 2025, recently approved by the Government of Nepal, as well as the Electricity Consumption Increase and Mineral Fuel Reduction Action Plan, 2024. Five full sessions will be conducted, focusing on various topics related to energy transformation.
