Reliance Power announced that its subsidiary, Reliance NU Suntech, has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Solar Energy Corp. of India for a 930-megawatt AC solar project integrated with a 465-megawatt/1,860-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system. The project, set to be Asia’s largest single-location integrated solar and storage facility, will be commissioned within 24 months.

The initiative will deliver four hours of assured peak power daily at a fixed tariff of INR 3.53 per kilowatt-hour. To achieve the contracted 930-megawatt AC capacity, Reliance NU Suntech will install over 1,700 megawatt-peak of solar generation capacity. The project’s design ensures reliable energy supply through the combination of solar generation and battery storage.

Reliance NU Suntech secured the project through a competitive tariff-based bidding process in the Solar Energy Corp. of India’s Tranche XVII auction, which attracted five major bidders for 2 gigawatts of interstate transmission system-connected solar capacity and 1 gigawatt/4 gigawatt-hours of battery storage. Reliance Power stated: “Reliance Power has successfully submitted a Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) of INR 378 crore to SECI. The entire bidding process – from the reverse auction to the issuance of the Letter of Award (LoA) and the signing of the PPA – was completed in under five months.”

The rapid completion of the bidding and agreement process highlights the efficiency of the project’s development. The integration of a substantial battery storage system enables the project to store excess solar energy and provide consistent power output, addressing peak demand effectively.

This development strengthens India’s renewable energy infrastructure by combining large-scale solar power with advanced storage technology. Reliance NU Suntech’s project supports the country’s goals of expanding clean energy capacity and ensuring a stable power supply, contributing to sustainable energy development in the region.
