Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has stated that the government aims to achieve 100 percent electricity access across the country within the next two years.

While responding to questions raised on the Appropriation Bill during the National Assembly meeting on Wednesday, Minister Khadka stated that programs are being advanced with the goal of increasing the annual per capita electricity consumption to 1,500 units within two years.

He expressed confidence that if this target is achieved, the country will be established as an energy-exporting nation and will generate revenue of Rs. 88.86 billion. He also claimed that 865,188 people will receive direct employment through the development of electricity infrastructure and project construction.

He said, “Work is underway with the goal of achieving 100 percent electricity access within the next two years. The target of increasing annual per capita electricity consumption to 1,500 units will be achieved within the next ten years. This will establish the country as an energy-exporting nation. As this goal is gradually achieved, it will generate revenue of Rs. 88.86 billion. A total of 865,188 people will receive direct employment, and it will also create employment for hundreds of thousands more indirectly. The government is moving forward with efforts to implement this very goal.”

Minister Khadka informed that the government has set a target to generate 28,500 megawatts of electricity by 2035, and programs are being implemented accordingly.
