A 6-megawatt Lower Likhu Cascade Hydropower Project is set to be developed in Likhu Rural Municipality of Okhaldhunga district in Koshi Province.

The Department of Electricity Development has issued a 35-day notice to inform the public and gather feedback regarding the potential impacts of the proposed hydropower project at the construction site.

The project is being developed by Shret-Ganga Hydropower & Construction Limited. The design flow of the project is 29.75 cubic meters per second, with a total head of 25.65 meters and an installed capacity of 6 megawatts.

The project is expected to generate an average of 35.93 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually.

The proposed main physical structures of the project will be located on the left bank of the Likhu River in Ward No. 4 of Likhu Rural Municipality, Okhaldhunga district. To draw the required water for the project, a headpond measuring 14.89 meters in length, 4 meters in width, and 8.85 meters in height will be constructed just downstream of the tailrace canal of the Lower Likhu Hydropower Project.

The electricity generated by the project will be connected to the switchyard of the 28.1 MW Lower Likhu Hydropower Project through a 1.5 km long, 132 kV single-circuit transmission line from the project’s own switchyard. From there, the combined electricity generated by the 28.1 MW Lower Likhu Hydropower Project and the 6 MW Lower Likhu Cascade Hydropower Project will be transmitted to the national grid via the existing 22.5 km long, 132 kV transmission line connected to Nepal Electricity Authority’s New Khimti Substation.

The project is proposed to begin commercial electricity production from March 05, 2028.
