The Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) has expressed deep concern over the severe disruption in vehicle imports following the recent devastating flood in Rasuwa, which washed away the Miteri Bridge at the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border point.

Issuing a press statement, NAIMA President Ritu Singh Vaidya said that the incident has critically impacted Nepal’s vehicle supply chain, especially as the nation approaches its festive season. According to NAIMA, over 60% of all vehicles imported into Nepal enter via the Rasuwagadhi border, making the situation increasingly alarming.

“The collapse of the Miteri Bridge due to the flood has completely halted the import process through the northern border. Vehicles that have already been cleared at the Chinese customs are still stranded and unable to enter Nepal,” the statement noted.

“This has not only dealt a financial blow to importers but also directly impacted consumers and disrupted the automotive market as the festive demand begins to rise.”

NAIMA voiced strong concern over the economic and logistical consequences of the border closure, stating that unless immediate measures are taken, the automobile market could face inventory shortages and delayed deliveries — affecting both dealers and consumers nationwide.

The association has called on the Government of Nepal and relevant agencies to prioritize rescue, relief, and infrastructure reconstruction at the Rasuwagadhi entry point. NAIMA emphasized that restoring the flow of goods through this vital trade artery is critical to maintaining supply stability.

NAIMA has also pledged its full cooperation for any coordination, consultation, or assistance necessary to address the current crisis. The organization reaffirmed its readiness to work with both government and private stakeholders to navigate this emergency effectively.

With the festive season fast approaching, resolving the Rasuwagadhi trade disruption has become an urgent national economic priority, and industry stakeholders await a prompt and strategic response from authorities.
