Nepal imported petroleum products worth Rs 19.94 billion through the eastern border point of Kakarbhitta during the last Fiscal Year (FY) 2024/25.

According to the Mechi Customs Office, the imports included petrol, diesel, LPG, aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene. Customs Officer and Information Officer Ishwar Humar Humagain said that compared to the previous FY 2023/24, petroleum imports dropped by Rs 908.2 million - a 4.40 percent decrease.

Despite the drop in imports, revenue from petroleum products increased by 6.5 percent, amounting to Rs 5.96 billion more than the previous year. According to official data, the government collected Rs 9.71 billion in revenue from petroleum imports in FY 2024/25.

During the period, Nepal imported 103,064 kiloliters of petrol worth Rs 8.92 billion, and 77,424 kiloliters of diesel worth Rs 7.03 billion.

Likewise, the country imported 25,568 metric tons of LPG worth Rs 2.82 billion, 7,292 kiloliters of ATF worth Rs 660.4 million, and 2,852 kiloliters of kerosene worth Rs 254.9 million.
