In Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province in southwest China, a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) charging station has opened at Quanhu Park. Spanning over 3,900 square meters, the facility features 130 charging bays with high-speed capabilities, offering charging rates close to "one-kilometer-per-second." This development addresses the growing demand for advanced EV infrastructure in China.

As China’s EV market expands rapidly, the need for efficient charging solutions has intensified. National data indicates that low-power chargers dominate the market, with fast-charging options limited and ultra-fast technology still emerging. To meet this challenge, four central government departments announced a plan in July 2025 to install over 100,000 high-power charging points across the country by the end of 2027, aiming to enhance service capacity and technological innovation.

The Quanhu Park station, a collaboration between Hubei Shanxin Energy Technology Group and China Southern Power Grid’s Guizhou EV service company, is Guizhou’s first liquid-cooled charging facility. It integrates ultra-fast charging, solar power generation, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) energy exchange, setting a new standard for EV infrastructure.

“Our aim is to match the refueling efficiency of petrol vehicles, ultimately boosting premium EV adoption,” said Lin Xiaolan, a director at Shanxin Energy, emphasizing the station’s innovative design as a model for future developments.

The station is equipped with 20 ultra-fast liquid-cooled chargers delivering up to 600 kW, 100 fast chargers with a maximum of 250 kW, and 10 bidirectional V2G units at 20 kW. It can serve 120 vehicles simultaneously, ensuring rapid and efficient charging. An intelligent system monitors real-time data, managing energy distribution across charging, solar power, and battery storage components.

Station manager Shi Jihong highlighted that the facility offers low-cost charging between midnight and 8 a.m., primarily benefiting ride-hailing and taxi drivers. “This is the premier charging experience,” said Che Zhong, a ride-hailing driver, noting the station’s efficient service and minimal wait times. A 50-minute charge provides enough power for a full day’s operation.

China Southern Power Grid’s Guizhou EV service aims to expand ultra-fast charging across Guizhou’s urban centers and provide widespread fast-charging access in county-level areas. This initiative supports seamless EV operation, even in the province’s mountainous terrain, contributing to China’s sustainable energy goals.
